Learn more about Grassroots Uganda

Florence Lacika is mother to four children and takes care of two more from her husband's first wife.

She has been living Jinja for many years and came here when the LRA was still in its infancy and led by Alica Lakwena.  The LRA raided her village and burned all the houses.  Her brother was abducted and then killed by the LRA.

Her father was abducted and killed by Idi Amin's cronies.  Her father was a pilot.

Florence lost two uncles to HIV.

She likes living in Jinja as it is very peaceful and allows her to earn a living by making beads for Grassroots Uganda.

She does feel she gets undermined by the Jinja locals however as she is "not from here".  The landlord is trying to evict her from the house she has lived in for twenty-six years so as to make way for a local.

She lives with her husband and son.

Her greatest wish is an education for her children.
