Florence was born in 1969, her and her husband who is now a carpenter, moved to Jinja, from Gulu, in 1999. The main reason they moved was because of the LRA and the war.
Many people would only go to their houses during the day to cook meals, but had to sleep in the jungle at night to avoid the LRA. Often people were forced out of their homes and had to live in the jungle.
While Florence was still in Gulu the LRA burned their houses and killed her 2 sisters and her brother in law.
After they moved to Jinja, her mother in law was also killed by the LRA.
She has 4 boys and 2 girls, the eldest, Mwaka Dennis, was born in 1984, the youngest Aloyo Esther is 8 years old. 5 of her 6 children are in school, 2 of them are A level. She also looks after her 16 year old niece who's mother was one of Florences sisters killed by the LRA.
Her other niece still lives with Florences stepmother in Gulu.
While nobody from Florences family have HIV, 2 from her husbands side have passed away from the condition.
She misses Gulu and does go back there sometimes, but is grateful to Pi Tek and the support the group has given her, she also enjoys making crafts to give her an income.
Her one wish would be to have her own house, somewhere she can feel settled with better rooms for her children as the house she is currently renting has the children housed in something I would describe as old unstable wooden boxes.
