Esther Lamuno was born in Jinja. She has been living in the same house since 1962. Her husband passed away from AIDS in 1997.
She had 9 children, 1 girl and 8 boys, however her eldest son born in 1973 has since died.
Her 2nd born child, Jimmy Mugisha has mental problems and police arrested him 3 months ago for no reason whatsoever. Esther hasn't visited him yet because she is too sad and knows it will be too hard for both of them. She says that if she had enough money she would be able to get him out of prison, I assume by bribe.
Of her remaining 6 children 4 are in school and 2 are working.
Esther also has 1 brother and 2 sisters that have also died from AIDS.
Esther has not checked herself or her children for HIV, but they suspect that one of her dependants may be HIV+
Because her sisters and brother have died she has taken on the extra burden of looking after her 11 nieces and nephews! 6 of her own children live with her which makes 17 in total!
She has 2 very small houses, she sleeps in one with the 5 youngest and the other 12 sleep in the other house.
Her one wish would be to have a home big enough for her whole family.
