Shadrach is in grade 5 and is a RYE school English student currently in level 5.  He enjoys studying Filipino language and isn’t quite sure what he would like to do in the future.

He has 2 brothers, ages 7 and almost 2, and 2 sisters, ages 13 and 4.  There are 6 people living in their modest home.  Shadrach’s father lives in Manila and sends money home to them twice a month.  His mother owns a small shop in the front of her home and also makes mats to sell. 

Most of their meals consist of rice, rice leftovers from the previous night’s dinner, vegetables, fish, and occasionally meat when they can afford it.
